Great music and quality beer

in a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere

Skipton Sound Bar is about more than just having a drink or buying a record, it’s about doing so in a warm and friendly environment. Whether you prefer to browse records, sit with a coffee and a magazine, or unwind and sample a few beers after a hard day, everyone is welcome.

Live Music

The Sound Bar continues to support local musicians and our Sunday Sessions continue to grow. With a new purpose-built stage and PA system we can accommodate solo musicians to much larger bands. Opening the new venue has allowed us to attract musicians and bands from all over the UK and Internationally. From Folk to Heavy Metal and everything in between, our vision remains to do more for live music and to put Skipton firmly on the live music map.

Records & Merch

We concentrate on vintage vinyl and collectable albums, but we do also stock a small quantity of new records. Due to the size of the new venue it looks like we are stocking less records, the opposite is actually true, as we now have much more wall space to display them and with support from our sister company, ‘Revo Records & Music’ we will continue to ensure the racks and walls are well stocked. In addition to the famed Sound Bar t-shirts, we will also be stocking more merch and band t-shirts etc.

Music

The music played will always be a wee bit eclectic. Across all decades and genres, Reggae, Soul, Rock, Funk, Indie, Punk and Ska, we endeavor to cover it all, from Marley to Metallica, Bowie to BB King, Damned to Desmond Dekker, Talk Talk to Television, Simple Minds to Sam Cooke etc. Quite often you can see albums that have been cleaned being played and graded before being put in the racks.

The Bar

Serving real ale on cask and keg including Guinness. Continental bottled beers, lagers and a good selection of fruity ciders. In addition to wines and spirits and of course great coffee and soft drinks.

Then & Now

The Sound Bar was established in 2015 by Miles & Phil, with a vision to create a haven for music fans. A grown-up record shop that also served alcohol. As musical fans the idea of browsing records with a pint was quite appealing.

Soon after, live music was thrown into the mix, and our famed ‘Sunday Sessions’ earned the reputation as the go-to for live music in Skipton.

Having set the foundations Miles and Phil decided to hang up their headphones in August 2017. In those days the Sound Bar was in a different and much smaller location that it is today. The bands had to be small and we couldn’t sustain the bar to meet the growing numbers of people who supported us and often came for the weekend just to visit us and have a great time.

With a clear vision to do more for live music, but with fond memories and a heavy heart we decided to close to old venue and move into the current and much larger location in June 2022.
