With a distinguished 45-year career in the music industry, former Big Country frontman for over a decade Simon Hough, now leads a powerhouse five-piece band of world-class industry veterans. Fresh off a Heritage Chart No. 1 hit with “Falling” from his last album, Simon and the band deliver a masterful fusion of soul, rock, and jazz.
Defined by lush, precision vocal harmonies reminiscent of The Eagles and The Doobie Brothers, the band brings decades of elite experience and technical mastery to the stage. This fantastic new lineup is now heading out on the road to bring their sophisticated sound, chart-topping material, and soulful grit to the personal atmosphere of intimate venues.
For over a decade, Simon Hough stood at the front of one of Britain’s most iconic bands, carrying the torch, the passion and the unmistakable spirit of Big Country to audiences across the world. Night after night, stage after stage, Simon delivered those towering, anthemic songs with power, respect and heart, earning his place as a defining voice in the band’s modern era. Now, with Simon, Mark and Gil taking a short break from “From Big Country” until later this year, the door has swung wide open for something fresh, exciting and entirely his own, Simon hasn’t wasted a second.
His original single “Falling” has just stormed to No.1 on the Heritage Chart, the long-running chart curated and championed by legendary former Radio 1 and TV personality Mike Read. Not only that, the song has just entered the USA Rob Masters Chart at No.17 — proof that this isn’t nostalgia, it’s genuine forward momentum. The Heritage Chart has been running for many years, showcasing established and emerging artists across both radio and television platforms, so to reach the top spot is no small achievement. It’s a powerful statement that Simon’s songwriting and voice continue to resonate on both sides of the Atlantic.
With fans asking whether he’d be touring his own material, Simon has answered in the best possible way — by forming The Simon Hough Band, a formidable new line-up packed with pedigree and experience. Alongside Simon on vocals and guitar is former Big Country bassist Gil Alan, bringing that unmistakable rhythmic backbone. Lead guitar and vocals come courtesy of Nick Johnson from Thunderclap Newman, plus Danny Jones from Outsider, while the drums are handled by Martin Shorrock of the Denny Laine Band. Completing the line-up is Liam Saunders on keyboards and vocals, a respected studio engineer and player whose credits include Snow Patrol and The Skids. This isn’t a casual side project — it’s a collective of seasoned musicians who have lived the road, made the records and know exactly how to deliver a show of real substance.
Rather than launching straight into vast venues, Simon has chosen something far more powerful: intimate shows across the UK and Europe where the songs can breathe, the stories can be told, and the audience can truly connect. Expect the soaring vocal presence that carried Big Country for over ten years, brand new original material including the chart-topping “Falling,” world-class musicianship and a performance fuelled by passion, experience and authenticity. This is an artist stepping fully into his own creative space — not revisiting the past, but building the next chapter with conviction.
